Blind bend on Forge Lane causes danger to pedestrians

Richard Carpenter, the owner of the farmland bordering Forge Lane, generously granted a right of way for a footpath along the northern edge of Forge Lane and FLAG have been campaigning and fund raising for construction of the footpath.

In March 2010, nine years after first inception, construction of the Forge Lane footpath was completed. This would not have been possible without support from East Farleigh Parish Council, Borough Councillors Brian Mortimer and Colin Parr, KCC Councillor Paulina Stockell and major financial support and planning work from KCC Countryside Access Service.

FLAG organised an official opening of the footpath on Saturday 24th April 2010, with a champagne reception at the Walnut Tree Pub, followed by a procession down the footpath to Court Lodge Farm where the footpath was officially opened by Richard Carpenter. The procession then carried on down the footpath and up to East Farleigh Primary School where a Barn Dance with ceilidh band ‘Flaming Great’ was held.

Martin Curd, Chairman of FLAG said, “ The footpath is brilliant, it really has connected the village, opening up a wonderful vista across the valley and making it a much safer route for residents and visitors. The project has proved that if a community works together towards one goal it can be achieved and you can have fun doing it.”

The campaign organised by FLAG has brought the village together for some great social occasions including wine and wisdom evenings, a gig night and the reinstatement of the village fete.
